Iberdrola's global renewables output drops slightly in Q1 2024
Apr 15, 2024 17:56 CESTSpanish utility Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) has appointed Katya Somohano Silva as the CEO of Iberdrola Mexico, tasking her with moving the company forward as it enters a “new phase” following a major asset sale to the Mexican state.
Mexico City native, Somohano takes over from Enrique Alba, who spent ten years with Iberdrola Mexico, the utility said on Friday.
Alba returns to Spain to an unspecified “position of responsibility” in the Iberdrola Group.
The CEO renewal comes two months after Iberdrola finalised the sale of 12 combined-cycle gas plants and a wind farm in Mexico to a trust in a transaction financed in part by the Mexican government's National Infrastructure Fund (Fonadin). The deal represented the opportunity to create the “New Ibedrola Mexico”, focused on decarbonisation and wind and solar development, the Spanish power firm said at the time.
"Iberdrola Mexico begins a new phase in the country with the aim of supporting the industry in its decarbonisation and emissions reduction goals. We want to grow hand in hand with our customers and suppliers, supporting national content, the creation of quality jobs and win-win in the communities where we have a presence,” Somohano said in a statement.
"By maintaining our operational excellence, we will execute the company's renewable growth plan. We reaffirm our commitment to Mexico and to the goal of building, together, a more sustainable and green future," she added.
